“Parkinson is not contagious, but PingPongParkinson® is” – Nenad Bach

Parkinson (also known as Parkinson’s Disease) is a neurodegenerative condition with the fastest growing prevalence in the world today. Although there is no cure yet, as Nenad Bach explained at TEDxZagreb in 2024, we have found in PingPongParkinson® an uncommon solution to this diagnosis – one which overcomes fear of the condition, slows its progress and even reverses symptoms, and brings greater quality of life.

Mission and goals

To reach as many people as possible through PPP sessions, personal stories, ideas and values, to foster physically active and supportive communities who see that a Parkinson diagnosis is far from a hopeless situation: actually, the potential for quality of life is unlimited and you can make a difference. PingPongParkinson® Australia also aims to:

  • Engage with the scientific community to further research into the benefits of table tennis for people with Parkinson and search for a cure for Parkinson
  • Collaborate with organisations who look beyond common solutions to seek meaningful social change from an individual level to a global scale.
  • Advocate for inclusion of people with Parkinson in para sport

Our Story

Now a global community spanning more than 30 countries, PPP was founded by musician Nenad Bach, who was diagnosed with Parkinson in 2010 and found his condition improved and his guitar playing abilities restored after he started playing table tennis regularly. The first PingPongParkinson® chapter opened at Westchester Table Tennis Center in New York on 1st March 2017. You can find out more about how table tennis transformed Nenad’s experience of Parkinson and music here and in the below ESPN feature. PingPongParkinson® started in Australia on 2nd September 2024 with the first session in Hervey Bay, Queensland. In addition to supporting the development of more PPP chapters, PingPongParkinson® Australia engages in advocacy, research, education and partnership activities, including collaborative activities with the University of the Sunshine Coast and Table Tennis Australia.
